Travelling Backwards

Lizzie is upset. Her grandfather is very ill and she realises that he will soon die. She begs her friend Mrs May to give her something to make him better. Mrs May gives her a potion with the warning that Grandfather must not drink too much.

The effect is startling. Grandfather becomes much younger and more vigorous with each sip. Of course, he pays no heed to Mrs May's warning until the process of getting younger becomes a little too extreme.

5Very good cat book - not just for children
By A Customer
This book is good and not just for children. I read it when I was 13 and found it really good - I think its probably more suitable for people over 6 or 7 anyway. The boy is very likeable and the cat in it is wonderful. It makes you really want to read on and find out about the cat (Ka) and ancient Egypt. Go and buy this book - you will enjoy it and its a great book for people who like cats. Also its got a good sub plot with the boys relationship with a deaf girl and its a really likeable story.

The Travelling Companion

This is a story from the Andersen's Fairy Tales collection.

The world of Hans Christian Andersen is seen through the eyes of children. There is the everyday wonder of an ugly duckling being transformed into a swan; the puffed-up Emperor being fooled by his own importance; the tender tragedy of a little match girl; the upright honesty of John rewarded by his traveling companion. By bringing true feelings to these stories, Andersen's tales have become part of universal folklore.

5Best of its Kind
By Amazon Customer
I have been slowly (so veeeerrry slooooowlllly) working my way through all the Hans Christian Andersen books available for kindle. This is the only one I would suggest reading.

Not only does this version have an active table of contents and lack any of the distracting misplacement of page numbers and illustration names that several of the others have (although it's still not illustrated), but it contains what appears to be every story ever written by Hans Christian Andersen!

Long stories (The Ice Maiden), short stories (The Princess and the Pea), well-known stories (The Little Mermaid), unknown stories (She was Good for Nothing) and dozens of others are all contained within these e-ink pages!

They are also readable! This is not the case with some of the other HCA books on kindle. The stories are still really boring, occasionally tedious, generally depressing and often religious, but yet I can read them without wanting to scream and pull my hair out as I did with What the Moon Saw: and Other Tales. Instead they are somehow magically more approachable and I can almost remember why I loved Hans Christian Andersen so much as a child (selected stories from, at least).

So if you, like me, are determined to try and re-visit your childhood via fairy tales written by Hans Christian Andersen no matter what, at least take pity on yourself--or pity on your children if you're trying to read the stories to them--and read this version.

4A wonderful book for adults and children
By Guinevere Cuthbert
I have always been a fan of the original versions of fairy tales, so I picked this book up a few years ago, just to read for myself. A few weeks ago my six year old found it hidden among my millions of other books, and asked me to read it to her. While easy to read silently, it is a bit hard to get into the rythm of the wording at first, but after stumbling through a few paragraphs, it becomes much easier to handle.
Since the discovery of this book, my children have been requesting stories from it almost every night. At first my three year old complained about the lack of pictures (it really isn't "fully illustrated"), but she quickly got over that and enjoys listening to every story. Both of my older children like to compare these stories to ones they've seen on TV, or read in the few modernized fairy tale books we own (given to us by friends and relatives). Maybe my children are warped - which is very likely - but they prefer the original stories, with their not-so-happy, and often times violent, endings.
I've never been one to believe children need to have their reality padded... real life doesn't always end the way we hoped, so neither should stories. Hopefully this book, and ones like it, will be a bedtime favorite for years to come.

Travelling with Kids on a Budget

If you haven’t travelled with children before, this book is for you. If you have travelled with children and it didn’t go to plan, then this book is for you to. On a trip to Fiji with hubby and two children, I realised just how much work and effort we had put in just for a seven day holiday. Travelling with children is a whole different world. You can no longer pack your bags on a minutes notice and fly to the other side of the world. Travelling with children takes organisation and you need to mentally and physically prepare yourself for your fun filled family holiday. Hubby and I spent time researching and planning our family holiday which I know will help other families. This book is different to other travel books for it is very practical. There is a space to write down everything you can think of that will make your family holiday a success. There is space provided to write down all your fantastic ideas while you are on holidays. I came up with this idea to write this book while on holidays. Dreams can come true, especially if you write them down. The book is a memoir of your holiday. In years to come you can refer back to it. You can relive all those great moments that you wrote about. Both the parents and children will love it. The book is fun, quirky with holiday/family pictures and it is extremely practical.

Fiona Neumann – Biography Fiona adores her family, they mean the world to her. Her hubby Matt and boys, Alex and Thomas give her their unconditional love and support for every new venture she embarks on. Her latest venture is writing a book which will appeal to parents around the world called Travelling with Kids on a Budget. They went on a family holiday to Fiji and Fiona came up with the idea to share her knowledge with the world. Travelling with kids is not easy, but it can be a lot of fun, you just need to plan ahead and be extremely flexible once you arrive at your holiday destination. Both Fiona and her hubby enjoy travelling and want to continue to travel with their children, so hopefully they will one day share the passion for travelling also.

The Tirnano - Book 1 - FINN (Volume 1)

Following the horrific Holborn Circus incident of 2008 which shocked the world, Jeanne finds herself and Paul her twelve year old son, embroiled in an impossible task. Failure could mean the end of mankind. ~~~~~~~ Paul squealed, bucking under her. Just as they hit dirt, the writhing kid somehow managed to turn. Arms and legs flailing, fists flying, he probably didn’t mean to smash her right between the eyes like he did. Probably, he was merely trying to stave her off. Unfortunately for Winn, the blow came out of nowhere, catching her by surprise. Combined with the raging, rampant, uncontrollable tongues of violet flame leaping inside her chest, licking at heart, core, centre, brain, the crack was like a thunderclap. One moment she felt the insane wrath, the pulsing pain in her skull; the next Paul’s fist cracked against her forehead. ~~~~~~~ THE TIRNANO - BOOK 1 - FINN Book 1 - FINN - Follows the build up by the separate forces for a confrontation with the armies of the Dark Gods. Book 2 - Q'REEM - The tale of a group of castaways, marooned in a strange land and how they survive through the years, joining with Jeanne in the battle with the gods. Book 3 - THE PURPLE QUEEN - The protagonists are united in the continuing conflict between The Gods of Light and Dark. ~~~~~~~

I have churned out numerous Short Stories; some not bad, some very bad and some which should never see the light of day ever again but all were part of polishing skills and abilities which have brought me to where I am now. I have written two full length novels, three novelettes, three cooperation’s with other authors, this my first attempt at an epic tale. Over the recent years I have developed an interest in the pantheon of Egyptian Gods and their followers. Delving extensively into numerous translations of a multitude of different documents on Ancient Egypt I found nothing which contradicted my conclusions. In fact the deeper I researched I discovered more and more parallels to the three present day religions which have their origins in the Middle East. In 2005 and 2009, I visited Luxor in Egypt. I was most intrigued by the tomb wall paintings in the valley of Kings and countless other sites which depicted a buried dignitary and his interactions with the Ancient Gods. - The Gods were painted as much larger than the general populous, which led me to consider that - other than the easy answer: ‘To enhance their status’ however I believe there could be an even more simple answer... that: They were actually greater in stature than humans, and they were not of this earth, they were visitors from the stars. Summer in Siam: Tales of Thai and Other Lands

“I walked out the door, a bit dazed. I had ten dollars and two not-quite diamonds, and it was summer in Siam.” John Borthwick’s first day in Thailand seemed far from auspicious — but it has been uphill from then on. Dropping him in the middle of everything from three-day tribal weddings, elephant polo follies and pristine islands to Pattaya’s bacchanalian nightlife, Thailand has kept John and his pen constantly on the move. One of Australia’s leading travel authors, John Borthwick has gathered here the best of his years of Thailand adventures, plus a swag of vivid tales from his wanderings in India, Xinjiang, the Himalayas, Borneo, Bali, Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines.

John Borthwick, one of Australia’s leading travel writers, is sometimes found in Sydney, but equally often getting lost in Asia. Writer/photographer John is the author of a very large number of magazine and newspaper features on travel and cultures. He is almost certainly Australia’s “most awarded” travel writer, having received multiple awards from the Australian Society of Travel Writers and other bodies. In 2004 the government of Thailand presented him with the prestigious “Friend of Thailand” award for his writings about that country. He holds a PhD in travel literature and his extensive photographic work is represented by the Lonely Planet Images library. John’s books include 'Summer In Siam', 'Chasing Gauguin's Ghost' and 'The Circumference of the Knowable World', as well as the edited collections, 'The Road to Anywhere: Peter Pinney' and 'Off the Rails'.
