Rhonda Carrier (Brittany, France and Manchester, UK) was born in the Midlands but spent much of her teens wandering and lived in Hong Kong and Vienna before studying languages and literature at Cambridge and the Sorbonne in Paris. During the 1990s she lived in London where she worked as a writer and editor for local guides and listings magazines, as well as publishing some award-winning short fiction. Since meeting her husband, the writer Conrad Williams, she has divided her time between Manchester in the UK and a crumbling old cognac farm in France, accompanied by their sons Ethan and Ripley.
